DESIGN OF IDENTITY PLATFORM31
Cities, regions and towns are constantly changing. Professionals and organisations need to be keyed into new developments. Platform31 and its partners put the right topics on the agenda and find answers to today’s social, spatial, and economical questions, as well as those of tomorrow. In addition, it offers a platform for new ideas and an inspiring network of thinkers and doers. What will the Netherlands look like in the future? And what can we learn from our field of work?
PLATFORM31 IS THÉ KNOWLEDGE AND NETWORK ORGANISATION FOR URBAN AND REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT.
Platform31 came into existence in June 2012 as a result of the merger of four prominent research and knowledge institutions: KEI, Nicis, Nirov, and SEV. Of course, such a merger is not easy to accomplish: each organisation has its own culture. But It is crucial to offer new perspectives and look beyond the horizon. A strong new identity that can grow along with the organisation is of utmost importance in this context.
A NEW IDENTITY THAT CAN GROW WITH THE ORGANISATION.
IMPLEMENTATION OF IDENTITY
Platform31 asked studio de Ronners to develop a radically new identity for the new, merged organisation. Part of this process was the carefully considered and gradual implementation of a identity. In collaboration with the client, studio de Ronners started by organising an internal workshop. This internal campaign offered ample space and opportunity for ideas regarding the new organisation and a matching identity. The workshop rendered valuable information for the development of the organisation’s identity and style. Moreover, it helped in “accepting the new.”
OFFERING SPACE FOR NEW VISIONS AND IDEAS AS THE BASIS FOR A NEW IDENTITY
An identity should be easy to use and apply. Usability is paramount. This means organisations should be able to start working easily with their new identity on their own. Studio de Ronners developed useful tools for Platform31. During this process we collaborated with experienced template builders. The tools may be used for all kinds of publications, ranging from Platform31’s own publishing house to reports and write-ups.
USABILITY IS PARAMOUNT
DEVELOPING YOUR IDENTITY INTO A STRONG BRAND
Using a identity becomes easier when the manual is compact and clear. This is why we opted for a digital and interactive document, that quickly and clearly shows which application of the logo is available. The same goes for fonts, use of colour and other identity elements. This transparent and customer-friendly set-up allows the brand identity to be presented in a powerful manner, and allows Platform31 to continue building its own strong brand independently.
